This year, Christmas will look a little different at West Overton! Take a candlelit tour of the 1830s Overholt home. Enjoy historically accurate decor as you learn the development of some of our most beloved Christmas traditions and how the Overholts celebrated (or not!) in the 1800s. As you tour room to room, follow their traditions over the century and learn about Christmas in southwestern PA as far back as 1800, the lore of gift givers like Belsnickel and Santa Claus, and the origins of other customs.
Taste warm spiced cider and a tasty treat from the Overholts’ 1830s kitchen; visit the carriage house where our historic sleigh will soon be filled with gifts; also stop in the educational distillery to sample and purchase a bottle of the first whiskey made at West Overton since Prohibition. In the distillery museum, make popcorn garland, a paper ornament, and “reindeer food.”
House tours are limited due to capacity in the homestead. Purchase tickets in advance through the link above. Admission for the tours is $12 adults and $10 for seniors, students, and military. Guests five and under are free.
Admission without the tour is $5 for anyone and includes everything but the 1830s home, and you do not need to purchase this level of admission in advance. Check in at the Distillery Museum to begin your visit.
