In Depth Look at the Darr Mine Disaster

A in-depth look at the Darr Mine Disaster. Pennsylvania’s worst mine disaster ever. Held on the 115th Anniversary of the disaster, December 19, 1907.

A look at what was the cause of the disaster and the events that took place before and after the Darr Mine Disaster. A look at the communities and people involved, and what life in the Van Meter area was like in 1907. 1907 would be the deadliest year in all mining history.

This presentation will be done by John Hepple who worked in the Mining machine industry for 17 years and Jim Bell who has over 40 years of mining experience.

This will a special event at the Rostraver Township Historical Society and will be limited to 80 people on this very solemn anniversary.

There will be a $5 fee charged for this event. The proceeds will all go to the Building Fund for repairs at the Old Fells Church. So come on out an experience the first real in-depth look at the Darr Mine Disaster and to help maintain another land mark in the old 1835 church structure.

Tickets will go on sale on October 11, 2022 at the old Fells Church/Historical Society. Tickets will be on a first serve basis.
