The Greater Brownsville Area Chamber of Commerce proudly serves businesses, community and civic organizations on both sides of the Monongahela River, a recreational and commercial source of growth for Fayette and Washington counties.

Started as the Board of Trade more than 60 years ago, the chamber is a strong community partner for Brownsville Borough,, and all organizations interested in restoring economic vitality to a riverfront town with a historic past and promising future. Brownsville Riverside Wharf, with a public dock, offers a commanding view of the Mighty Mon, where commercial tugboats and recreational craft are commonplace sights. The downtown, on the cusp of a major revitalization, boasts a public library, U.S. Post Office and other key amenities for visitors. The borough features two National Trust-designated historic districts, including a stretch of Route 40 with the oldest commercial buildings west of the Alleghenies, 19th century churches and cemeteries, Nemacolin Castle, the Flatiron Heritage Center museum and gift shop and Monongahela River, Rail & Transportation Museum.

For decades, the chamber has sponsored two major community events: Independence Day Fireworks on July 3 at the 467-acre Patsy Hillman Park and Brownsville Light-Up Night on the day after Thanksgiving. Both events draw thousands of people to town each year. Light-Up Night features a communitywide luminary and a caravan of decorated emergency vehicles that crisscross the river on an eight-mile trek, with Santa and Mrs. Claus in tow, who later distribute treats to children as part of an evening of free family-oriented fun.

The chamber brings together all facets of the community, actively supporting numerous fundraisers of local organizations and charitable giving throughout the year. Its business and individual members are civic-minded leaders and role models for the Greater Brownsville area's future growth.
