Our story

We think life is best when sprinkled with unexpected pleasures, like when your neighbor shows up at your front door with two slices of freshly baked pie!

Creating the fdp studio+shop together has been great fun for us, and we hope the things that we’ve made and collected will surprise and delight you.

It all began when Francis signed up for a community pottery class. He was smitten. Before long our car moved out of the garage and onto the driveway to make room for a pottery wheel, a kiln, and tons (literally tons) of clay.

He made pots for fun, giving most to family and friends and selling extras at the local farmers market. We discovered that folks love handmade pottery, so we started a webstore. Retailers and restaurants began to carry fdpottery. The pottery “hobby” outgrew the garage, and it was time to move into a dedicated pottery studio.

We are thrilled to have found the perfect spot for a big, new pottery studio in Pleasant Unity, PA. The new fdp studio shop was originally built to be a country grocery store. In addition to a grocery, the building has housed a florist, a screen door manufacturer, a video store, and most recently a much-loved cafe. We now have plenty of room for pot-making as well as a retail shop.

Lynn has stocked the shop with artisan home goods created by some of our favorite makers, as well as plants, pantry treats, and a smattering of vintage. And of course there’s lots of fdp handmade pottery.

We will continue to make and collect new, unexpected pleasures, so stop by often—and bring pie!

Lynn and Francis.
