Jeannette, PA – Bushy Run Battlefield will be hosting a free lunch for members of the public interested in becoming volunteers at the historic battlefield and museum. The lunch will take place in the museum’s Stone Room on Saturday, March 22 at 12:00pm. Attendees can expect to learn about Bushy Run’s operations and the varied roles of volunteers at the site. Bushy Run is looking for more volunteers to serve as tour guides, front desk coverage, event staff, administrative support, and much more.
Following the lunch, prospective volunteers will have opportunities to shadow current Bushy Run volunteers to ask questions and get a sense of the different roles.
Attendees to the lunch will have an opportunity to submit the required background checks. Bushy Run requires all volunteers to submit a PA State Police background check and a PA Child Abuse History Clearance. Additionally, if the volunteer has lived outside of PA in the last 10 years, they must also submit an FBI fingerprint clearance. Bushy Run will reimburse the fee for the FBI clearance.
Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to participate in Bushy Run activities. However, students are welcome and may use Bushy Run volunteer hours towards school service requirements.
The Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society is operated primarily by volunteers. The organization has one paid administrative staff member. A growing volunteer base is needed for Bushy Run events, educational programs, and general operations to continue.
Bushy Run Battlefield preserves and interprets for citizens and visitors the site of this pivotal battle fought between British and Native Americans during the conflict known as Pontiac’s War (1763-64) and the role of this British victory in maintaining control of North America.
