National Road Heritage Corridor

a section of the National Road Heritage Corridor with a winding road, mountains, and trees with the city of Uniontown in the distance.

Constructed in the early 1800s, the National Road was the first federally funded highway in the United States, stretching from Maryland to Illinois. Nearly 90 miles of the route passes through southwestern Pennsylvania and the Laurel Highlands, forming the National Road Heritage Corridor. As it passes through Somerset and Fayette counties, the roadway offers motorcyclists a ride that blends scenic beauty with a strong sense of history. The route follows ground once traveled by early settlers and military forces, including those led by George Washington during the French and Indian War. Along the way, riders can stop at Fort Necessity National Battlefield, where Washington fought (and lost) his first battle, and Braddock's Grave, the final resting place of British General Edward Braddock. Historic tollhouses and inns remain along the route, offering a glimpse into the early days of cross country travel, while small towns and mountain views create opportunities to slow down and take in the surroundings. Begin your ride in Addison at the Petersburg Tollhouse and follow Route 40 through Farmington, Uniontown, and Brownsville before continuing west into Washington County and toward Wheeling, West Virginia.

Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor

Lincoln Highway Barn Mural

The historic Lincoln Highway stretches from New York City across the country to San Francisco, but one of the most inviting areas of this cross-country Highway is the 200-mile Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor. Visit charming small towns, unique shops, 5 state parks, 2 national parks, and dips and turns reminiscent of days gone by.

Start your journey at the Lincoln Highway Experience museum to learn how this road changed America forever as you enjoy pie and coffee in a refurbished diner.

From here, head west to Latrobe (the home of Arnold Palmer and Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp), Greensburg and Irwin, each full of unique shops, great food and roadside murals and landmarks to see.

Head east and you'll find historic Ligonier (home to Fort Ligonier, antiques and the top-ranked Fort Ligonier Days festival) and onward to Jennerstown and Somerset.

America's 9/11 RideAmerica's 9/11 Ride

Every year, more than 600 motorcyclists meet in Somerset and visit the Flight 93 National Memorial and all of the sites affected by the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks over a several day journey.

America's 9/11 Foundation donates $30,000 annually in scholarships to children of active responders and donates a new police motorcycle to one of their police department escorts.
