Heritage Hike: Inclines 6 to 10 

Park rangers will lead a hike of the Inclines 6 to 10 Trail on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at 10:00 am. Space is limited due to shuttling and reservations are required. Please call the Visitor Center at 814-886-6150 to sign up for this free hike. 

The hike is 9-10 miles in length and follows the Allegheny Portage Railroad down the eastern side of the Allegheny Mountains. The trail is extremely steep and rugged in places! Participants will learn about how the Allegheny Portage Railroad was built and operated. Many features from the days of the railroad are visible.

Participants are encouraged to wear good walking shoes and bring water and a snack. The hike will take place rain or shine.

Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site

Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site is located 10 miles west of Altoona, Pennsylvania off the Gallitzin exit of US Highway 22. The park preserves portions of the first railroad crossing over the Allegheny Mountains. This unique railroad connected the eastern and western divisions of the Pennsylvania Main Line Canal.
