Our popular Holiday Makers Market returns and is now the whole first weekend of December!

On December 2 and 3, visit both floors of the Museum to do some holiday shopping with vendors who make, bake, or grow their wares. Shop vendors featuring art, accessories, home decor, baked goods, and other items. Different vendors will be featured for each day of the event to highlight as many small businesses as possible. There will also be food trucks on site for both dates.

West Overton Distilling will be open during market hours. Stop by the Educational Distillery for a holiday themed cocktail and purchase rye whiskey, glasses, mixers, and more. Grab a bite from several food trucks on site.

Be sure to enter the basket raffle for a chance to win several lovely baskets!

On Saturday, December 2, from 11am - 3pm, take a photo with Santa Claus.

Admission and parking are free.

Event NameChristmas by Candlelight

Date: December 9, 10, 16, 17

Location: West Overton Village

Address: 109 West Overton Road, Scottdale, PA, 15683

Admission:  $12 for adults; $10 for seniors, military/veteran, teachers, students, children 6+; free for children 5 and under, West Overton Village members, and SNAP/EBT recipients. Those who do not sign up for a guided tour can visit the museum and enjoy activities at our free open house.

Christmas by Candlelight invites you to a 19th century Christmas! Take a candlelit tour of the 1838 Overholt Homestead. Enjoy historically accurate decor as you learn about some of our most beloved Christmas traditions and how the Overholts celebrated (or not!) in the 1800s. As you tour room to room, follow the Overholts’ traditions over the century and how they changed over time. Learn about Christmas in southwestern Pennsylvania as far back as 1800, the lore of gift givers like Belsnickel and Santa Claus, and the origins of other customs.

Also taste warm spiced cider and a sweet treat from the Overholts’ 1830s kitchen, visit the carriage house where our historic sleigh will soon be filled with gifts, and stop in the Educational Distillery for samples, bottle sales, and Christmas-themed cocktails. In the Museum, partake in holiday traditions like stringing popcorn, decorating ornaments, and making Christmas cards. Explore our award-winning exhibition, Forging Ahead and Falling Behind, about the history of West Overton’s villagers and industries. Homestead tours are limited due to capacity in the house, so tickets must be purchased in advance.

Guided Tour Schedule

Tours will be offered December 9, 10, 16, and 17. They will leave on the half hour, the first tour leaving at 4:00 p.m. and the last tour leaving at 7:30 p.m.

While guided tours are paid and scheduled in advance, the Museum will be open for free on the tour days from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Anyone is welcome to stop by to enjoy the exhibition, crafts, holiday treats, and the Distillery.
