Westmoreland County is divided into 65 municipalities of various sizes, shapes, and landscapes. It is our mission to explore what makes every one of those 65 municipalities special.
We are moving in random order through the list. We are on our sixth feature, and this time, our randomizer landed on South Huntingdon Township.
South Huntingdon Township is one of the more populated municipalities in the county, with around 6,100 residents calling South Huntingdon home. Students who live in South Huntingdon are served by the Yough School District.
The Youghiogheny River flows around South Huntingdon’s western border, and State Game Lands 296 provides beautiful hiking in the south. Visitors can enjoy exploring Creek Falls as they hike through the wilderness.
As you explore South Huntingdon Township, you can also find the picturesque Bells Mills Covered Bridge, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
And of course, thousands of visitors come through every year to enjoy the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival, which is held annually around August and September. You’ll find all kinds of costumed characters at this unique gathering!
