If you're a coffee drinker, you've come to the right place. We know what it's like to be on vacation without your faithful coffee machine and your favorite mug. And it's important to figure out where you'll be grabbing your first cup in the morning. While you're weaving your way through the Laurel Highlands, we can assure you that there is a coffee shop nearby. Great adventures start with great coffee!
512 Coffee and Ice Cream - Latrobe
Yeah, you read that right! Coffee AND ice cream. What else could you ask for? 512 Coffee and Ice Cream is a house-turned-café located in the heart of downtown Latrobe with a vibe that will beg you to stay awhile. Cozy up by the fireplace with a latte complete with foam art and a sweet treat during the winter, or enjoy a refreshing Italian soda while playing lawn games in the garden area. Regardless of when you visit, it's only right to indulge in a banana split in the town the tasty treat was created!
Abigail's Coffeehouse - Ligonier
Located on the Diamond in Ligonier, Abigail's Coffeehouse is the perfect stop to grab a cup of coffee while you're in town! In addition to coffee, they also serve breakfast, lunch, baked goods (including their very popular pepperoni rolls), and even ice cream! Their menu changes seasonally with themed beverages with clever names, but be sure to try out their flavor of the week, which varies from pumpkin spice to chocolate hazelnut. If you're overwhelmed with choices, their house brew, Dancing Goats, is absolutely delicious!
Bittersweet Café - Farmington
Bittersweet Café in Farmington almost feels like a fairy garden, with plants and a pergola leading to the front door. This is a popular stop for visitors because it's just a few miles from both Ohiopyle State Park and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. Grab a hot, cold, or frozen cup of joe, or switch it up and order a frozen fresh fruit smoothie with flavors like strawberry lemonade and Dreamsicle. Bittersweet is also a great lunch spot, but they don't serve your average café foods. Indulge in a salmon filet sandwich or a pulled pork grilled cheese, and then get back on the road!
Café Marchand - Greensburg
You can find Café Marchand tucked inside The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg. The café is open during the museum's regular hours of operation, and admission is free! Spend an afternoon wandering around the museum after grabbing a impressionist cold brew, art deco latte, Red Ribbon soda, or a glass of beer or wine! Along with their grab-and-go food and baked goods, Café Marchand also collaborates with local restaurants to provide more meal options. P.S. food and drink is only permitted indoors on the first floor and outdoors in the garden and terrace.
Kingfisher Coffeehouse - Ligonier
A short walk from the Ligonier Diamond, Kingfisher Coffeehouse is a charming family-owned café whose passion is supporting other local businesses! Of course they serve traditional drinks like Americanos, lattes, and fresh-brewed Dark Side coffee, but the stars of the show are the specialty drinks. The base is usually a seasonal flavor, and every drink is topped with a treat, from caramel popcorn to apple crisp granola. There is seating available inside, but if you're not in a hurry, and the weather cooperates, I recommend enjoying your coffee and baked good of choice outside!
Lincoln Highway Experience - Latrobe
As you're cruising along the Lincoln Highway, you'd be amiss to not make a stop at Lincoln Highway Experience to learn about the historic route. Every tour of the museum ends in Serro's diner, which served many travelers coming off of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in its heyday. Now, the diner sits in the Lincoln Highway Experience with almost all of the original furniture and appliances. Take a seat in the diner, enjoy a complimentary slice of pie, provided by Dainty Pastry Shoppe and Original Pie Shoppe, and a hot cup of coffee, and talk with your company about all that you've seen and learned. While it's not a proper coffeehouse or café, it's definitely the most unique place to have coffee in the Laurel Highlands.
Silver Horse Coffee - Donegal
Silver Horse Coffee is the perfect stop for those traveling on the Turnpike, sitting only 1.5 miles from the Donegal exit. Silver Horse is a proud brewer of Standing Wave coffee and can chef up a delicious burrito, trust me. In addition to coffee and bites, Silver Horse sells souvenirs to forever remind you of your trip to the Laurel Highlands, including stickers, patches, journals, candles, sweatshirts, and more. The goods are never the same; it all depends on which local business they are currently partnering with. Stay awhile and sit on the couch as you feel the warmth of the fireplace and take in the eclectic decorations. Silver Horse Coffee is more than a coffee shop, it's a destination!
Tissue Farm - Confluence
While Tissue Farm isn't a coffee shop, it sure has one! What used to be a car dealership is now a vacation rental with an espresso and tea shop on the first floor, where the showroom once was. Tissue Farm is a short drive from Ohiopyle State Park, Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, and only an 8-minute bike ride from the Great Allegheny Passage. I'm sure you'll find yourself nearby, so stop in for a latte made with local Moo Echo Dairy, an icy oatmilk coldpress, sweet and savory scones, macaroons, and other baked goods to get you back out on the trail. They even sell their own bottled cold brew and iced tea, so you can stock up! Please note that the espresso and tea shop is only open seasonally, so check their hours before you stop!
A lot of these coffee shops and their creations are Insta-worthy, so don't forget to use #laurelhighlands when you post!
