It’s time to see, taste, smell, and feel again at our wonderful Westmoreland County historic and cultural organizations. We’re talking in this month’s episode about some great upcoming immersive experiences at two of our beloved partner sites, and we’ve got everything from whiskey to Woodstock!
Our two guests on Heritage Happenings this month were Kristin Miller, Site Coordinator for the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Ligonier Valley, and Jessica Kadie-Barclay, Chief Executive Officer at West Overton Village and Museums. We turn first to Kristin and the great upcoming events planned for SAMA: Ligonier’s 2021 season.
Not only does SAMA: Ligonier have a beautiful Mother-Daughter collaborative exhibit coming up just in time for Mother’s Day, but they also have two major events planned in the immediate future. The first being a Fashion Show and Purse Auction to be held Saturday, May 22. You’ll need to listen to the episode to hear our fantastic conversation about the way this event will work. And as hinted earlier, SAMA: Ligonier’s annual Garden Party will be Woodstock-themed, inspired by a donated collection, and the perfect way to enjoy an indoor & outdoor groovy time at the museum. We spent the second half of the episode talking to Jessica, who was on call from West Overton’s much-anticipated distillery! West Overton’s soft opening for the season will be May 6, which will be closely followed by their May Market event on May 8. We know everyone has been eagerly anticipating the inclusion of West Overton’s whiskey on their educational tours, and you can tune in to discover the exciting plans for the 2021 operating season. As Jessica said, this year marks just the tip of the iceberg for what West Overton has planned in the coming months and years of operation.
